PlatinumGames Launches The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter

After months of speculation, PlatinumGames has launched a Kickstarter to fund a remaster of their 2013 Wii U cult classic ‘The Wonderful 101’.

The Kickstarter reached its $50,000 funding goal in less than 30 minutes, confirming a Nintendo Switch port; however, stretch goals include Steam and PlayStation 4 ports. Backer reward tiers include physical copies of the game, t-shirts, a comic book and more. The Kickstarter’s campaign ends on March 6th, 2020.

Regarding their decision to use Kickstarter, the page states:

Although PlatinumGames has been able to grow over the years thanks to the players and our fans, we still haven’t been able to fully realize our long-time dream of self-publishing our own IPs. With your support, we hope not only to bring The Wonderful 101 to a wider audience on a variety of platforms, but also to add some content that will enhance the experience even more! This campaign is your chance to empower us to pursue self-publishing and take our destinies into our own hands.

Platinum recently announced a partnership with Chinese video game corporation Tencent, which would empower them to self-publish and increase funding following troubled developments, such as Bayonetta 2 and the cancelled Xbox One exclusive Scalebound.

The announcement of The Wonderful 101: Remastered is part of a ‘Platinum 4‘ campaign started by the studio today. It seems this campaign will consist of the announcements of 4 new titles or updates from the studio, which already has titles such as Bayonetta 3 and Babylon’s Fall in development.

The Wonderful 101 originally launched as a Wii U exclusive on August 23rd, 2013. The estimated delivery date of the upcoming remaster is April 2020. Platinum most recently teamed up with Nintendo to deliver 2019’s Astral Chain.
