In an interview with MCV, head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty confirmed that Microsoft’s next-generation platform Xbox Series X will not launch with any major exclusives until ‘at least a year’.
In the interview, Booty states:
As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices. We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.
While the wording here is tricky, it is worth noting that as of right now the upcoming Ninja Theory title Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II has only been confirmed to launch for Xbox Series X and PC, making it at least a console exclusive; however, Microsoft has been known to still release certain titles on Sony and Nintendo consoles from time to time, so it remains to be seen if Senua’s Saga will stay that way. Microsoft also initially announced Halo Infinite as an Xbox One title; however, they confirmed at E3 2019 that the title will be cross-generational and also launch on Xbox Series X and PC.
Xbox Series X will release in Fall 2020.
