Ubisoft Announces Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Animated Spin-Off

Ubisoft announced today via The Hollywood Reporter that it is teaming up with Castlevania producer Adi Shankar to create an animated series based on the cult classic Far Cry 3 expansion Blood Dragon.

The animated series, titled ‘Captain Lazerhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe’, was announced alongside three other Ubisoft animated adaptations, the others being an untitled Watch Dogs spin-off series centred around ‘cybermysteries’, a show based in the Rayman world (although not focused on Rayman or the other cast of characters from the games) and an adaptation of the Hungry Shark mobile game titled ‘Hungry Shark Squad’. The poster for Captain Lazerhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe can be seen below.

The series will feature multiple references to other Ubisoft properties, apparently creating a Ubisoft ‘multiverse’. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Ubisoft Television & Film managing director Helene Juguet stated:

Adi is such a great fan of video games. We share the same culture and references. It’s been great to give him the freedom to do something very fresh and bold with our characters.

Adi Shankar recently produced Netflix’s critically acclaimed animated adaptation of Konami’s Castlevania franchise with Frederator and Powerhouse Animation, which many see as the greatest video game adaptation of all time, sitting at an incredible 90% on film/television review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. In 2017 Shankar announced plans to adapt Ubisoft’s massive Assassin’s Creed franchise into an animated series; however, there has been no update on the project since its announcement. The producer also announced plans to adapt Capcom’s Devil May Cry series into an animated series in November 2018; however, there has also been no update on that since its announcement.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon originally released as an expansion to Far Cry 3 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on April 30th, 2013 and quickly became a cult classic, spawning a spin-off with the Trials series titled Trials of the Blood Dragon in 2016. Captain Lazerhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe does not have any release window yet.
