Oculus Rift will cost $599 and is expected to arrive in March

We finally know how much an Oculus Rift will cost. It’s a lot, but you get a lot for your money.

If you want to get your hands on an Oculus Rift, now that pre-orders have opened, it will cost you $599, before tax and shipping, from the Oculus Store. However for the price, it comes bundled with a lot of items, including guaranteeing your place in line for Touch controllers which will be available in the second half of 2016.

For your money, you will receive the Oculus Rift headset and motion-tracking sensor along with the Oculus remote, an Xbox One controller as well as free copies of Eve: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale. However pre-orders are currently limited to just one per person.

You can pre-order your Oculus Rift right now and don’t need to pay any money upfront. It’s more like a reservation than an actual pre-order at this stage, although pre-ordering will guarantee you a Rift on day one, providing you can pay for it of course.

Oculus have also revealed they are aiming to get the Oculus Rift into consumers hands at some point in March.

Here’s what kind of rig you need to be able to run games on the Oculus Rift:

  • graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
  • processor: Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • memory: 8GB+ RAM
  • output: Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • input: 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
  • operating system: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
