Konami Surprised Sony Removed PES 2019 from July’s PS Plus Lineup

Sony’s decision to remove PES 2019 from July’s PlayStation Plus lineup was a surprise to Konami, the company has revealed.

Last month, Sony revealed the lineup of games that it would be offering for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers for July, which included Horizon Chase Turbo and PES 2019. However, a decision was made at the last minute that saw PES 2019 being swapped out for Detroit: Become Human.

No reason was given at the time for why Sony had decided to remove PES 2019 and replace it with Detroit: Become Human, and it seems that Konami is still in the dark as to why the decision was made. Konami has confirmed though that it was Sony who made the decision and not them.

In a statement given to Eurogamer, Konami urged them to contact Sony for a statement as the decision was made by them.

“This decision was made by SIE and so please make an inquiry to SIE,” the statement read.

As expected, Eurogamer then went to Sony for a statement, and while they did not give a reason for why PES 2019 was dropped, they did state that it was a decision they made as a company.

“We have decided to make a change to the PS Plus games lineup this month, and will be offering Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019,” Sony said. “This was a decision we decided to make as a company, and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

European PES Brand manager Lennart Bobzien also revealed to GameSpot that he only found out about the news the morning that Sony decided to replace PES 2019. “I cannot really tell you what happened because I just found out today, in the morning when I opened my laptop. I can’t really explain.”
