CD PROJEKT RED have announced in a new video uploaded to the Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube channel, a cosplay competition. Entrants can participate both online and offline. Online entries can be submitted via the official website. Offline qualifiers take place over four days at five different gaming events:
-
Gamescom (Cologne, Germany) – August 21st-24th
-
PAX West (Seattle, USA) – August 31st-September 3rd
-
Tokyo Game Show (Tokyo, Japan) – September 12th-15th
-
Igromir (Moscow, Russia) – October 4th-7th
-
Paris Games Week (Paris, France) October 30th-November 3rd
Entrants must cosplay as any character shown in official media and must submit three edited and three unedited photos. The deadline for entries online is November 30th at 23:59 CET.
Judges will select an entry from each offline event and five from online submissions for a total of ten finalists. The grand final takes place in 2020 with a total prize pool lying at $40,000. CD PROJEKT RED may contact selected finalists with offers to become official Cyberpunk 2077 cosplayers at major pop-culture events.
Since E3 on the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account (@CyberpunkGame), there has been frequent tweeting of art, videos, and information. Notably, there have been tweets about specific characters, likely prominent NPCs. These tweets include background information about these characters, as well as a full-body model on a dark-blue background. It is possible these tweets were hints of the contest; most likely they were coincidence. Nonetheless, potential cosplayers can garner inspiration from these tweets and create a complete, accurate cosplay.
Full guides for cosplays of a selection of characters will be released soon. More analytical entrants may prefer to look at existing media for Cyberpunk 2077 cosplay ideas before then.
In other news, there is also a free Cyberpunk 2077 home screen theme for PS4 on the PS Store.
