The Witcher 3 Runs at 540p in Handheld Mode on Nintendo Switch

Nintendo announced during their E3 Conference yesterday that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- Complete Edition will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch, confirming that rumours circulating last month were indeed true.

Understandably, the graphics have been downgraded, but nonetheless, it’s an impressive feat that CD Projekt Red and Nintendo have been able to bring one of this generation’s greatest open-world games to the Nintendo Switch.

It’s no surprise then that The Witcher 3 will look better when played while dock compared to handheld mode. When asked on Twitter what resolution the game will run in, the official The Witcher account replied by revealing that it will be running at 720p in docked mode with the game running at a much lower 540p while in handheld mode.

While a resolution of just 540p is pretty low by today’s standards, it’s important to remember that this is only while playing in handheld mode while on the go. In order to make The Witcher 3 playable on the Nintendo Switch at all, some compromises have had to be made, and the graphics are arguably the most demanding aspect.

At this resolution, the game will still be more than playable, but there will be a noticeable difference in the quality and clarity of the visuals compared to when the game is played in docked mode. Compared to the console and PC versions, there will be a clear visual downgrade, but that goes without saying.

The Nintendo Switch version of The Witcher 3 will still benefit from the same awesome gameplay and story though that made so many people fall in love with the game the first time around. Both CD Projekt Red and Nintendo should be applauded for making this happen, regardless of the resolution.

As of yet, there is no official release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- Complete Edition on Nintendo Switch, although it is expected to launch later this year.

The rumour that circulated last month suggested that we’ll be getting a September release, but we’ll have to wait and see how true that is.
