Microsoft has announced that it will be increasing the price of Xbox Live Gold in the UK, with the price increase set to come into effect from May 8th.
The price of a standard monthly subscription will be increasing by 16% and will see the price rise from £5.99 to £6.99 a month. A three-month subscription to the online service will also increase from £14.99 to £17.99, that’s a rise of 20%.
A yearly subscription, on the other hand, will go up by 25% and will see the price increase by £10. That means that you’ll now be paying £49.99 compared to the current price of £39.99
You can still buy the three-month and annual subscription at its current price right now, so if your Xbox Live Gold membership is running out soon, it may be best to renew it now before May 8th to get it at a cheaper price.
Microsoft has stated that they have increased the price of Xbox Live Gold in the UK to ensure that there is consistent pricing for the service across Europe.
‘To ensure gamers have consistent pricing for Xbox Live Gold across Europe we are making changes to UK pricing from May 8th. Prices will rise by £1 a month for our monthly subscriptions, £3 for our quarterly subscriptions and by £10 a year for an annual membership,’ Microsoft said.
‘This new pricing is aligned to the changes we made in the region in 2016 as we strive to offer our members premium gaming and entertainment services at a fair price. We have notified members whose accounts are on recurring billing in the UK so they are aware well in advance.’
