The Division 2 Bug Prevents Players Playing Together from Same IP

Those who have purchased the gold edition or above of The Division 2 are already busy enjoying the game, with everyone else set to gain access later this week. However, players who have already started playing the game have uncovered a potentially game-breaking bug that makes it nearly impossible for players to group together with others who are on the same network or IP.

The bug was brought to attention by players over on the Ubisoft Forums, as well on as Reddit. When two or more players join a group with each other who are playing on the same internet network or share the same IP, the game seems to create different instances that render it unplayable. It’s been highlighted that the enemies from one player’s game will stop moving on the other players’ screen, meaning that they cannot engage or interact with any of the enemies. Despite that, players are said to still be able to find loot and continue with their objectives.

Reddit user Eternal70200 created a thread highlighting the problem:

“My wife and I are in Japan and are fine playing solo, but if I attempt to join her group, all of the enemies on her side don’t move and she can’t interact with them at all, but she still sees loot and objective updates. If she attempts to join me, same thing happen.”

They continued, “Basically whoever joins the other player’s instance takes over their instance and the host becomes a ghost with no interaction on their side.

One interesting thing, in Japan our external IP is the SAME from outside our network. But this wasn’t an issue during our beta. So some patch has destroyed MP. Haven’t tested with other players yet.”

Thankfully, there does seem to be a workaround while Ubisoft works on fixing the issue. The workaround involves both players pressing alt-F4 and then reconnecting to the game. This seems to keep both players in a group and manages to load them both into the same instance when reconnected.

The Division 2 released worldwide for everyone who has purchased the standard edition on March 15th.
