Former PlatinumGames Creative Producer Claims It’s Unlikely That Scalebound Is Coming to Switch

Earlier this week, it was reported that Scalebound was being revived by Nintendo and would be released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, two years after Microsoft made the decision to cease development on the title.

As claimed by Nintendo Insider’s Alex Seedhouse, Nintendo was reviving the title and was working with PlatinumGames to release Scalebound on the Nintendo Switch. While there has been no official announcement or comment from Nintendo, Seedhouse stated that he had confidence in his sources that this was the case.

However, a former creative producer at PlatinumGames has cast doubt on this rumour by saying that he finds it doubtful that Scalebound is being revived, let alone by Nintendo for the Switch.

Speaking on Twitter, JP Kellams responded to the original report by Nintendo Insider by saying that while he didn’t know if the rumour was true, he was highly doubtful that Scalebound being revived by Nintendo was actually a thing.

He went on to add that the situation regarding the IP ownership of Scalebound made this rumour seem unlikely to be true. Scalebound’s IP was owned by Microsoft, and it seems unlikely that they would just hand it over to either Nintendo or PlatinumGames. Of course, Microsoft could have sold the IP, but there has been no official announcement that such a deal has taken place. For Nintendo to be reviving the game, it would be safe to assume that they would need to own the rights to Scalebound.

Unfortunately for JP Kellams, his comments regarding the rumour has attracted a lot of attention from fans of Scalebound, as well as supporters of both Nintendo and Microsoft who seem to be on opposite sides when it comes to believing the report.

Is Scalebound being brought back to life by Nintendo for the Switch? Or is this nothing more than one of those rumours that everyone hopes to be true but, unfortunately, proves not to be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
