Russian man sues Bethesda after becoming addicted to Fallout 4 and therefore losing his job and wife

It seems that today you can sue for pretty much anything, as is highlighted in this bizarre story coming out of Russia which has seen a man try to sue Bethesda after Fallout 4 destroyed his life.

According to RT News, a 28 year-old Russian gamer is suing Bethesda for emotional distress after he became addicted to Fallout 4 which as you would expect, led to him losing his job and breaking up with his wife. I wonder what one came first? Anyway, he is trying to sue for 500,000 roubles ($7000) in compensation, claiming that he had no idea that the Commonwealth would “become so addictive” and destroy his life after finding out about the game in an advert.

He says that he only intended to play Fallout 4 for several evenings but instead of playing it after work, Bethesda’s huge open-world RPG swallowed him up whole and refused to loosen its grip on him. As a result, his life quickly spiraled out of control over the course of three weeks.

Not only was he skipping work, resulting in him being fired, but he pretty much stopped remembering their was a world outside of post-apocalyptic Boston. He stopped sleeping or eating causing his health to deteriorate and was no longer socialising with his friends nor his wife who had enough and left.

In a statement released from the man in question, he said, “If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it. I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays.”

You would think the chances of him winning the case would be slim, but there have been several other similar cases in the past, including back in 2010 when a US federal judge sided with a Hawaiian man who’s claim was that he would never have begun playing Lineage II if he knew he would have become addicted to it.

Does this mean I can sue other video game publishers like Konami and Activision for occasionally getting bad grades on a few tests in high school?

Got nothing to lose I guess! 😛 haha Except your money in legal fees ofcourse 😉

I also read that his lawyers said they are just seeing how far the case can go. Not sure how serious they see their chances haha
