Battlefield V Pre-Orders Lag Behind Black Ops 4 Pre-Orders by 85%

It’s safe to say that Battlefield V has had a pretty rough few months when it comes to publicity, and for one reason or another, pre-orders of Battlefield V have fallen well below expectations. Right now, we don’t know just how low pre-orders of EA’s upcoming shooter are; however, one analyst believes that pre-orders of Battlefield V lag behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 pre-orders by more than 85%.

According to analyst firm Cowen, Battlefield V is heading for serious disappointment for EA when it comes to pre-orders, and they expect the game to be the biggest casualty among the several big games launching in October.

Speaking to CNBC, analyst Doug Creutz told them “EA’s Battlefield V currently appears to potentially be headed for serious disappointment.”

He added, “It is lagging far behind “Call of Duty,” “Red Dead Redemption 2” and “Assassin’s Creed, and by slightly more than it was two weeks ago in the case of the first two. If we had to pick one game to be a casualty of the crowded October window, this would clearly be it.”

Battlefield V is up against the likes of Red Dead Redemption II, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and, of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, with all games launching just weeks apart from one another. Battlefield V’s negative publicity, coupled with the games it is competing against, has resulted in the financial success of Battlefield V looking more than uncertain.

While Battlefield games have generally lagged behind Call of Duty when it comes to pre-orders, no Battlefield game has been as far behind COD’s pre-orders as Battlefield V. For comparison, pre-orders of Battlefield 3 and 4 are estimated to have been 20-40 per cent lower than those for Modern Warfare 3 and Ghosts. Battlefield 1, however, was leading Infinite Warfare in pre-orders.

Battlefield V is set to release on October 19th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches a week earlier on October 12th, with Red Dead Redemption II releasing on October 26th.
