Life Is Strange Developers Dontnod Announce Twin Mirror

The developers of the hugely successful Life Is Strange and recently released Vampyr, Dontnod Entertainment, have revealed their new game, Twin Mirror. Announced at E3, the game is being published by Bandai Namco.

Taking on a more adult theme but with the similar small town-meets-supernatural aesthetic of Life Is Strange, the game is set in Basswood, West Virginia, as the game’s protagonist, Sam, returns to his hometown following a bad breakup. Twin Mirror is described by Dontnod as a psychological thriller that deals with themes of truth, duality and polarity as the player investigates the town Sam once called home.

The game’s trailer shows elements and a set-up similar to the developer’s previous adventure game, with the serious and grounded story of small town America being contrasted with elements of the supernatural and murder. The game’s announcement trailer suggests a murder mystery as the game’s protagonist wakes in his hotel room to his clothes covered in blood and no memory of the night before.

The game is a first for publisher Bandai Namco, who are taking steps into the adventure game genre, and a return to the genre for developer Dontnod, whose last game, Vampyr, is an open world RPG in the vein of Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines. They are also currently working on Life Is Strange 2.  No word yet on if Twin Mirror will be episodic, though it would seem likely. The game is set for a 2019 release.
