Nintendo Nindies Showcase 2018 Announcements

Nintendo’s Independent Games Showcase recently aired on March 20th, 2018. Here are some upcoming games announced on this livestream:

Mark of the Ninja

A side scrolling stealth action game developed by Klie Entertainment. Its initial release was the 7th of September 2012 and it was received well by audiences and critics. A remastered version of the game is coming to the Switch in Autumn of 2018.

Fantasy Strike

A fighting game that mixes fantasy and martial arts, and it is developed by Sirlin Games. The Game Director, David Sirlin, was the lead designer behind Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. The game comes to Nintendo Switch during summer 2018.

Just Shapes and Beats

A game about….well, shapes and beats. It is a multiplayer, couch co-op, musical bullet-hell game developed by Berzerk Studio. It comes to Nintendo Switch during the Summer.

Garage

A top-down shooter from developers tinyBUILD. It is heavily inspired by the VHS era of B-movies but tinyBUILD are mostly known for their indie horror hit Hello Neighbour. The release of a game from this studio on the Switch is bound to get people talking about a Switch port of this indie horror game, who knows? Garage is coming to Switch in Spring of 2018.

Pool Panic

A game dubbed by its developers as “the worlds least realistic pool simulator”, Pool Panic is a massive cartoon game of pool. The game, developed by Rekim and Adult Swim Games, will contain over 100 levels. It will arrive on Switch at some point in 2018 as a system exclusive.

Bomb Chicken

A platformer featuring a hen that lays bombs; instead of jumping in the game, you must lay eggs, or bombs rather, at a rapid pace as to get high enough to jump onto the platform. The game has been developed by Nitrome Games and is eggspected (sorry) to eggsplode (not sorry) onto the Switch this summer. Eggcellent (too far?).

Lumines Remastered

A puzzle game that was initially released on the 12th of December 2004 as a launch title for the PlayStation Portable. The game is a series of puzzles based around light and sound and is being remastered led by Tetsuya Mizuguchi and his studio, Enhance. It will arrive on Switch during Spring of 2018.

Reigns

An adventure game that was initially released on August 11th, 2016. It is a virtual card game where you act as a medieval monarch. The game presents a series of situations, and you must swipe either left or right to choose how you will deal with it. The game is developed by Nerial and is coming to the Switch in spring 2018.

Light Fall

A side-scrolling platformer brought to you by developer and publisher Bishop Games. In this game, you navigate the areas with a magic box called the shadow core, which is used to propel you forward and get through the levels in, what looks to be, a massively enjoyable way.

West of Loathing

A “slapstick comedy, stick figure, RPG adventure” from Asymmetric Games that sees you exploring an open world as one of three character classes. The game will include puzzles, optional turn-based combat and over 50 collectible hats. The Switch exclusive will be available during spring 2018.

Pode

Developed by Henchman & Goon, this is a co-op exploration puzzle game where you play as two unlikely friends going on an adventure through a strange mountain. The game has been inspired by Norwegian art resulting in a stunning, unique art style. The game will be playable in single-player as well as multiplayer with the two Joy-cons split into two controllers. Pode will arrive during spring of 2018.

The Messenger

A game that puts a new spin on retro 8-bit titles. What is that twist, I hear you ask? You play as a time travelling ninja. The game also switches between 8-bit graphics and gloriously rendered 16-bit graphics. Be on the lookout for secret levels, new upgrades and great speedrun opportunities when Sabotage’s The Messenger arrives on Switch in Summer 2018.

Bad North

Developed by Plausible, this is a real-time strategy game that has you playing against a Viking horde. Each army member you lose is gone forever, so be careful with your soldiers. Bad North comes to the Switch during summer 2018.

The Banner Saga 3

The conclusion to the trilogy of mature, story-driven role-playing games is coming to Nintendo Switch. Prepare yourself for tough battles, difficult choices and terrible losses. What do I do if I haven’t played the first two games, I hear you ask in my head (seriously, get out of my head)? Well, I have good news for you: The Banner Saga 1 and 2 are coming soon to Switch too. The Banner Saga 3 will be coming during Summer 2018, and its predecessors’ release dates are to be confirmed. Enjoy the whole trilogy, developed by Versus Evil, very soon.
