Microsoft expecting to see a surge in Xbox One sales this Christmas

Microsoft is expecting a surge in Xbox One sales this Christmas with tens of millions of Xbox 360 users waiting to make the transition over to the Xbox One, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has told GameSpot.

This holiday season has been marketed by Microsoft as the best one yet with a huge range of first-party games releasing in the coming weeks as the well addition of third-party blockbusters. If there is any time to make the jump over from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One, this holiday season is it believes Greenberg.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had a holiday like what we have this year where not only is Halo 5 coming, but we have Gears of War, we have Rare Replay, we have Forza 6, we have Rise of the Tomb Raider; just kind of a non-stop lineup of AAA exclusives titles”, said Global Marketing boss Aaron Greenberg. “In addition to an incredible lineup of big, third-party blockbusters like Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront. So if you’re a gamer, you’ve never really seen a holiday lineup like this before. ”

When questioned about the impending arrival of backwards compatibility for the Xbox One, Greenberg revealed that Microsoft expects a massive migration following this holiday season’s games line-up as well as the extra functionality the Xbox One will be receiving.

“There’s tens of millions of Xbox 360 fans that are out there that are still playing on Xbox 360 and they’re waiting for the right time and the right reason to migrate over to Xbox One.”

“Whether they’ve been waiting for the first true next-gen Halo with Halo 5 or if they’ve been waiting for solutions like backwards compatibility, we do expect to see a pretty massive migration this holiday of those fans. And being able to continue to get the value in the game purchase you’ve invested and take that value with you to Xbox One is the key idea behind that and we’re excited to deliver that for fans.”

“We’re going to be the only next-gen console delivering backwards compatibility”, Greenberg continued. “And we’re launching that on November 12, we’ll have over 100 games that basically come free of charge. If you own these titles, whether you have the disc sitting around or digitally, they’ll automatically show up in your games library and, in many cases, more than double or triple your available games to play on Xbox One. I think it’s a huge benefit. ”

Following Microsoft’s price cut of the Xbox One which has seen the official RRP drop below £300, there’s no doubting that a huge influx of gamers taking up the Xbox One is likely this Christmas. After all, when the first-party line-up is compared to what Sony is offering for the PlayStation 4, it looks like there is only one clear winner.

In the US, you can currently grab an Xbox One 1TB console bundled with Halo 5: Guardians for under $500.

I honestly don’t see Halo5 as a console seller after playing through it. I would think mincraft would be the system seller….oh wait you can get that on the ps4 too! Who’s running the show over there at M$ anyway? Idiots!

I don’t think any game would sell the Xbox One. Microsoft need to go down the good old £199/$199 route.

When you are too terrified to talk about your consoles actual sales to humans since January 2014, you aren’t allowed to talk about a “surge” in sales. Define “surge” Microsoft”. For example, is a “surge” being able to sell close to what PS4 sold in July 2015?

everyone knows the PS4 is selling like hot cakes dude. Hurray. There’s no need to parrot it. Xbox one is selling fine as well. Move on with life.

The Xbox One isn’t going to be getting any more momentum, it’s already dead. It’s been getting outsold by the PS4 in the worldwide charts, EVERY SINGLE MONTH since the two consoles hit the shelves and that won’t be changing anytime soon.
This “Exclusive” lineup of theirs is actually abysmal and it just proves what low standards the Xbox owners have for themselves as gamers. Gears Of War was an absolute flop on Metacritic, it got torn apart for it’s weak gameplay, weak multiplayer, last – gen graphics and horrible controls. Halo and Forza have been turned into cheap shovelware annual franchises that never change from year to year and that nobody cares about anymore, and Tomb Raider isn’t even exclusive, Square Enix are already advertising the PS4 version of the game on their website.
The Xbox is absolute trash when compared to the PS4 and sales prove that. Microsoft are paying the price for releasing a weak, underpowered, last – gen console without any must – have exclusive games and now they’re forced to watch as their worthless hunk of garbage rots down at the bottom of the sales charts where it belongs.

Are you stupid or something? Just because PS4 is doing better doesn’t mean it’s dead. Both consoles are doing very well…..by your logic you would have to say the PS3 should have been considered dead because the X360 was a clear leader (early in the last gen lifetime).
Grow up – both consoles are doing very well. People will buy whichever one has the games they want. If someone desperately wants to play Halo 5 then they have to buy an X1 – and vice versa for Uncharted on PS4.

I’m afraid the Xbox One will crawl along until the Xbox Two and PS5 console war starts. Sluggish Xbox One sales will force Microsoft to release Xbox Two earlier than planned.

It’s a case of do I pay £299 (just under $470) for an Xbox One or £299 for a PS4. Most will probably go for the PS4, which is now tipping 25 million units. Both consoles haven’t exactly come out with a bulk load of top games in the 2 years they’ve been out there. Microsoft need to drop the price to £249, but still, £50 isn’t much to play with, unless they throw in some games. To pull in big sales, the Xbox One will have to drop to a budget price, it’s still crawling at £299. Although, both the Xbox One and PS4 can be picked up for £249 discounted online. £249 is more ideal, at £199 with a big loss included, it’s the only solution for the Xbox One.
