Following its launch last week, FIFA 18 has jumped straight into first place in the UK games chart; however, physical sales of FIFA 18 at launch are said to be down 25 percent on last year.
When compared with physical sales at FIFA 17’s launch, FIFA 18’s physical sales have dropped by a quarter, although digital sales are, unsurprisingly, up. It’s also important to note that this year, FIFA 18 launched on a Friday, whereas FIFA 17 launched on a Tuesday, which gave it several days longer to accumulate sales. Despite releasing at the end of the week, FIFA 18 still comfortably took top spot.
Chart-Track believes that one of the reasons for the drop in physical sales is down to POSA (Point Of Sale Activation) cards. These are the cards you can buy in shops which have a digital code that you enter to redeem the game.
When it comes to market share of FIFA 18, PlayStation 4 is top dog with 60 percent of sales being made on Sony’s platform. Xbox One sales account for 37 percent, with the remaining 3 percent of sales coming from the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Switch versions.
