PayDay 2’s microtransaction drill is tweaked following outrage

Last week we reported how PayDay 2 developer Overkill had added microtransactions into the game following the Black Market Update after stating several times that they would never add them. Not only were microtransactions included, but if you coughed up the money for a drill to crack a safe, you would receive a weapon skin with increased stats giving you an advantage. Rightly so, players were not happy about this after PayDay 2 had its weapons nerfed making these new weapon skins more of a necessity than cosmetic bling.

In response to the outrage, Overkill has now tweaked how microtransactions work in PayDay 2 by including drills in normal loot drops. This means that you can now acquire drills to crack these safes without spending any of your hard-earned cash by just playing the game. Although that it still an option for those who want to throw money at their screens.

In the patch notes, this tweak reads as follows:

“Added Drills to the Card Loot Drop reward table. Players can now be rewarded with Drills that can open Safes after successfully completing a heist”.

Whether or not Overkill will do anything else to address the issues raised by its now rather angry player-base is not clear, however with them now tweaking the microtransactions, I wouldn’t be surprised if they make further changes.
