Cheaper PlayStation VR Bundle Announced; Older Bundle Receives Price Drop

PlayStation have announced on their official Twitter account that a new PlayStation VR bundle will be available starting September 1st.

This new bundle includes both the PlayStation VR headset and the PlayStation camera for $399 USD (MSRP) and $499 CAD (MSRP). This effectively means that the PlayStation camera comes at no extra charge. PlayStation added in the official PlayStation Blog entry that accompanies this announcement that this bundle will be the new “core PS VR bundle moving forward,” meaning this bundle is likely a permanent fixture.

In the same announcement, PlayStation added that the previous ‘PlayStation VR Worlds’ bundle (which includes the PS VR headset, a PS Camera, two PlayStation Move controllers and the game collection of PlayStation VR Worlds) would be seeing a price reduction. The new price will be $449 USD (MSRP) and $579 CAD (MSRP), and will also be available come the first of September.

Note that all mentions of this bundle only say it is coming to the U.S. and Canada; it appears that there won’t be a similar price cut in European territories for the time being. Whether European customers can expect such a deal in the future is currently unknown.

As a final piece of news, the Farpoint PS VR Aim Controller Bundle (which includes the game Farpoint and the Aim Controller) is also now back in stock as of today. It remains at the same price as its original release.

These new bundles and price reductions likely come as preparation for PlayStation’s plan to “bring out the big guns” in the near future, as discussed by Sony’s Vice President of Marketing Asad Qizilbash during the GameStop Expo in Las Vagas on the 27th of August. In the same discussion, Qizilbash mentioned that more AAA games would “absolutely” be coming soon (the full discussion is saved on the event’s Twitch recording, starting at 05:53:00).

PlayStation VR was originally released October 16th, 2016.
