Steam Link and Steam Controllers don’t currently work on Mac, Valve apologizes

Currently, the Steam Link and Steam Controller are not working on Macs due to “some temporary software issues”, it has been revealed.

The Steam Link which is used for streaming is unable to stream from Mac machines, however an update which will be released in the next few weeks will add full support for streaming audio, video and controller input, Valve has said.  The Steam Controller on the other hand doesn’t currently support gamepad emulation for Macs, although Valve also expects this to be functional within the next few weeks.

In an email sent out to customers who purchased the Steam Link and Steam Controller, Valve apologized for the devices not working on Macs and as a gesture of goodwill, Valve will gift everyone affected the Valve Complete Pack which will give access to all of Valve’s games, past, present and future.

“We want to apologize for the delays in providing full functionality for the Mac platform”, stated Valve in the email. “We’re doing everything we can to resolve the issues. For the latest fixes and functionality, we recommend that you opt in to the Steam client beta.”

Customers are also able to get a full refund for their purchase of the Steam Link or Steam Controller, with Valve extending their returns policy to 60 days to cater for this incident, as well as offering to cover postage. However if you do push ahead with a refund, you will still get to keep the Valve Complete Pack, regardless of whether you choose to sit tight until the issues are fixed or opt for a refund.
