For Some Reason You Can Buy Destiny 1 Silver on Steam

When Destiny launched on consoles in 2014, PC gamers were left disappointed after Bungie decided not to release the game on PC. With Destiny 2 just around the corner, it seems extremely unlikely that Destiny 1 will be making its way onto PC; however, someone on NeoGAF spotted that you can actually buy Destiny Silver right now through Steam.

NeoGAF users also spotted other Destiny 1 listings on SteamDB, but the most interesting discovery was the ability to pay with real life money for Destiny Silver. The problem with that is that Destiny isn’t available on PC, let alone Steam, so you’re essentially paying for nothing. The question is though, why?

Right now, Destiny 1 Silver costs 1p, with 2,300 silver being available to purchase for £20.01.

For anyone unfamiliar with Destiny, silver is the game’s in-game currency that can be purchased with real life money, and it can then be used to purchase in-game items for your character through the Eververse Store.

The first conclusion someone might come to is that Destiny 1 may be making its way onto Steam shortly. That seems extremely unlikely though given the fact that Destiny 2 launches next month. Not only that, but while Destiny 2 will be coming to PC, it’s been confirmed that it won’t be available through Steam and will instead use Blizzard’s own launcher.

One reason given for Destiny 1 Silver appearing on Steam is that Activision may have considered releasing Destiny on the platform going but in the end decided against it. That theory could be supported by the fact that Destiny 1-related listings have appeared on SteamDB for some time now.

Another NeoGAF user, JaseC, suggested that it may have been an indie developer who borrowed Destiny’s Silver microtransactions for testing.

“The likelihood of this actually being Destiny 1 PC is practically nil, so either it’s Destiny 2 and the descriptions and icons are placeholders or an indie dev borrowed Destiny’s silver microtransactions for testing,” he said.  “Personally, the fact that the icon images are sourced from Bungie.net, PlayStation.com and XboxLive.com has me leaning towards the latter.”

We’ll update the story if we ever find out the real reason.
