New Splinter Cell Game in the Works?

Ubisoft could have a new Splinter Cell game in development as their recent trademark application has surfaced online ahead of the company’s E3 presentation. Does this mean we will see a Splinter Cell reveal during the presentation? If so, this would be huge for Ubisoft as their lineup is already stocked full of exciting titles, such as Far Cry 5, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, and more than likely the latest instalment of Assassin’s Creed.

Splinter Cell has always been a hugely popular franchise for Ubisoft. We have not seen series hero Sam Fisher since 2013’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which was a rather different take on the series. Blacklist was a lot more action orientated and featured much larger areas for players to explore and take different paths to their objectives. Where the game was met with an overwhelmingly positive reaction, long-term series fans (such as I) were rather disgruntled with the decision to replace series veteran Michael Ironside as the voice of Fisher.

The trademark application does hint at a series reboot as it only mentions ‘Splinter Cell’ with no subtitle accompanying it. Could Ironside be making a return to the saga, or will Eric Johnson reprise his role as Fisher? This is the more likely of the two if this will be a reboot of the series.

Ubisoft’s E3 conference will be held on Monday the 12th of June at 9 pm UK time.
