Argentina footballing legend Diego Maradona has revealed that he is set to sue Konami after they used his face in PES 2017 without gaining permission from him to do so.
In PES 2017 Diego Maradona is available as one of the game’s retired players which can be accessed in PES‘s online mode, myClub. The mode features other retired players including Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Gary Lineker.
Konami included Diego Maradona as a player and gave him an overall rating of 97, making him one of the game’s best players. However, according to Diego Maradona, he never gave Konami permission to use his name or likeness in the game and will be taking legal action against the Japanese publisher as a result.
Maradona made a post on his Facebook page yesterday stating that his laywer Matias Morla will ‘initiate the corresponding legal actions’.
“I heard yesterday that the Japanese company Konami uses my image for its game PES 2017,” Maradona wrote. “Unfortunately, my lawyer Matias Morla will initiate the corresponding legal actions. I hope this is not another scam…”
To make matters worse for Konami, it’s rumoured that EA may be set to include Diego Maradona in FIFA 17, possibly as a legend for Ultimate Team. If true, this could be one of the reasons why Maradona is choosing to now take legal action against Konami.
