Fire Emblem Direct Recap

After the Nintendo Switch presentation last week, Nintendo has aired one of its Nintendo Direct videos. This time the Direct focused solely on Fire Emblem titles coming in the future. Read below for all the games shown.

The first game shown was Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. The game is a re-imagining/remake of the 1992 game, Fire Emblem Gaiden which had previously launched exclusively in Japan. Every aspect of the Fire Emblem Gaiden game’s presentation has been updated, along with the game being fully voiced. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will launch on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems May 19th. Characters from the game, Alm and Celica, will be available as amiibo figures in a two-pack, also on May 19th.

Next, Nintendo announced in their Direct that a completely new Fire Emblem game has already been in the works for the Nintendo Switch. This is the first time since 2007 that a Fire Emblem game will come to a Nintendo home console. While no footage was shown of the game, a 2018 expected release date has been announced.

Nintendo also showed an extended trailer for KOEI TECMO’s upcoming game: Fire Emblem Warriors. The game was originally announced at the Switch event last week, but no gameplay was show then. In the Direct however, footage was shown detailing the combat and giving a look into the graphics. It was also revealed that the game would come to the New Nintendo 3DS. Fire Emblem Warriors is scheduled to launch this fall.

Finally, the last game shown in the Fire Emblem Direct was actually a new mobile game from Nintendo. The game is called Fire Emblem Heroes, and it will feature a plethora of characters from previous installments in the franchise. Players can enjoy tactical roleplaying on bite-sized maps designed to fit nicely on a smartphone screen, even when playing in short bursts. Players lead their armies with easy touch-and-drag controls, including the ability to attack by simply swiping an ally hero over an enemy. If they manage to defeat every enemy on a given map, victory will be theirs. The heroes are depicted in new art hand-drawn by a variety of illustrators, and their voices have been newly recorded. Fire Emblem Heroes will be available as a free download with optional in-app purchases available. It is scheduled to release this February.

As a huge Fire Emblem fan, this week’s news has me excited for the series’ future. For all upcoming news and reviews on Fire Emblem titles, keep checking in here at Gaming Respawn.
