Yooka-Laylee Gets a New Trailer and Release Date, but Wii U Edition Is Canceled

Yooka-Laylee, the ‘spiritual successor’ of Rare’s N64 hit, Banjo-Kazooie, has finally been given a release date after being delayed. The game will now be launched worldwide on April 11th 2017. The game will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux. Pre-orders for both digital and physical copies are now available with a price of £34.99/$39.99.

Those who pre-order the game also have the chance to play the Yooka-Laylee Toybox, which is an exclusive area not featured in the game. Here players can test out Yooka and Laylee’s sweet moves and get to grips with some of the things to expect in the game. Playtonic is working to make the console version of the Toybox be available to the relevant backers. Also under work is a way for current backers to upgrade their pledge to a physical copy of the game.

The Wii U edition has been cancelled due to it not being possible for Playtonic to release it for the console. Instead, they are working with Nintendo to release the game for the Nintendo Switch. More information is due at a later point, but this will not have the 11th April release date. In the future those who had backed for a Wii U copy will have the chance to switch to any of the others including the Nintendo Switch.

To celebrate all of  the new information, a new gameplay trailer was released, unveiling a whole new world, Capital Cashino. The new area shows off a wide variety of activities, from playing slot machines and having a round of crazy golf to busting a move on the dance floor. In the Cashino the player competes for new casino tokens which are exchanged with the banker for Paiges. The trailer shows a whole new manner of enemies and obstacles trying to stop Yooka and Laylee on their quest.
