Lose Your Dignity with Butcher’s Free W.I.M.P. DLC

Misanthropic cyborg shooter Butcher, released back in October (see my review here), is a heck of a lot of fun, and the gore-drenched pixel art is blooming marvellous, but it’s also pretty damn tough. Well, the game that once proudly declared “The easiest mode is HARD” has introduced an easy mode via means of a free DLC. So, apparently now “The easiest mode is not hard”.

But you know what they say: there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Transhuman Design jibe that the price of installing the charmingly-named W.I.M.P. (Winning Is My Pleasure) mode is your dignity. They also warn that other side-effects may include:

  • depression
  • lower self-esteem
  • socially inappropriate behaviour caused by the loss of self-respect
  • feeling offended
  • sleep disorders

And if you weren’t feeling bad enough about struggling with the game’s macho difficulty, they’ve made this rather tongue-in-cheek video to promote the DLC.

I guess they probably think I’m a massive pussy for only managing to complete it on “hard”! Other recent updates to Butcher include:

  • better gamepad support
  • key combo support in control settings
  • speedrun leaderboards
  • multiple save slots
  • compatibility tweaks and minor bug fixes

It’s also currently 20% off over on Steam. Butcher is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
