Will Modern Warfare 3 and Oblivion Be Available on Xbox One Via Backwards Compatibility Shortly?

It looks like both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion could be heading to Xbox One via backwards compatibility.

Listings for both games have appeared under the backwards compatibility section on the Xbox Store. However, it has caused some confusion as Microsoft are yet to officially announce that the two games are available to play on Xbox One. Despite being listed it’s not currently possible to play either Modern Warfare 3 or Oblivion on your Xbox One.

It looks likely though that both games will be available to play on Xbox One at some point in the future. A similar situation happened with Skate 3 last week when the game was announced on the Xbox 360 dashboard as being available on Xbox One; however, it wasn’t actually available to play via backwards compatibility until later on when Microsoft finally officially announced it. It looks like this is the same case here.

As you can see from the image above, Modern Warfare 3 and Oblivion are both included in Microsoft’s Black Friday Sale which is offering a number of games at discounted prices. Modern Warfare 3 is discounted by 40%, while Oblivion has received a discount of 57%. If you have Xbox Live Gold, you get an extra 10% discount on top.

Unfortunately, Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson) replied on Twitter that the listings for the two games were an “error”. He didn’t go into any more detail than that, but we’re still hopeful that both Modern Warfare 3 and Oblivion will be making their way to Xbox One via backwards compatibility at some point in the future.

Modern Warfare 3 and Oblivion are two games that have been heavily requested to come to Xbox One backwards compatibility. Expect to hear an official announcement from Microsoft shortly.
