Nintendo NX May Be Cheaper Than People Think, According to Report

The Nintendo NX may be cheaper than the vast majority of people expect with Nintendo keen to not repeat the mistakes they made with the pricing of the Wii U which has been a huge flop since launching back in 2012.

According to MCV UK, Nintendo are going to target the mass market with the NX and will do so by offering it at a mass market price which will see the console priced cheaper than current-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Not only will it be cheaper, but they believe it will be even cheaper than the vast majority expect, which could see the Nintendo NX release with a price tag similar to that of the Wii.

The Nintendo Wii was released in 2006 and was available for £179 at launch. The Wii was a huge success for Nintendo which was helped by the console’s new innovative features but also by the console’s cheap price. However, Nintendo didn’t have the same amount of success with the Wii U which was released in 2012 for £229. Pricing alone was considered one of the reasons why the console failed to take off in addition to the lack of interest in what the Wii U brought to the table.

“Early online speculation about pricing for the NX expects it to be cheaper than current consoles, but from what we’ve heard it’s going to be cheaper than even the vast majority expect”, says MCV.

“This is a machine that is targeting the mass market, and Nintendo certainly plans for it to have a mass market price. Price is one Wii U mistake Nintendo is determined not to repeat. This could be NX’s single biggest win.”

Yesterday a report from Eurogamer revealed that the Nintendo NX would be a portable console which would double up as a traditional console by being able to be plugged into a TV when at home. It was also stated that the NX would use game cartridges once again which caught many people by surprise.
