The season of spooks is upon us! With Halloween finally here, we can curl up with a spooky book, sit down and fail to be scared by what counts as ‘horror movies’ these days and enjoy some terrifying video games. If you enjoy some nostalgia with your horror, then you might be a fan of Goosebumps. Did you know that as well as releasing horror stories, there were some choose-your-own-adventure books created for the franchise?
The Give Yourself Goosebumps series were some amazing books, allowing the reader to transport themselves into a Goosebumps story and then try to live through it. The endings were brutal, gruesome and often existentially terrifying.
How would you like to slide down a slide for all eternity? Or be forced to watch George Washington crossing the Delaware until you croaked? Well, both of these are legitimate endings in the first 5 books in the series. Not to mention numerous beheadings, crushings and being eaten by monsters. Spooky stuff!!
If you enjoyed this video, then you might also enjoy the Mupple retrospective about the Fighting Fantasy series. Although the Goosebumps variants don’t offer any RPG mechanics or even inventory, they still have the same classically brutal approach to storytelling.
