Fighting Fantasy – Mupple Corner

Welcome back to The Mupple Corner. This week we present one of our personal favorite videos from the reviews series. In this case, it’s about the fantastic Fighting Fantasy books that were all the rage in the 80s and 90s. If you’re not familiar with them, they were basically choose-your-own-adventure gamebooks that featured stats, inventory, and combat, as well as choosing paths.

The series has had many iterations over the years. From the original gamebooks to the tabletop RPG system, to the modern video game and app adaptations, they’ve been around the block a few times. In fact, Gaming Respawn once even covered the PC remake of the first gamebook in the series back in the day, both in a video and on the site itself! Great minds clearly think alike.

Not only does this video cover the entire breadth of the Fighting Fantasyseries, or at least the different formats it has been available in over the decades, but it also features a hilarious scene in which Will nearly falls over while dressed as a Renaissance fair attendee. Also, don’t tell his dad that he’s using his cape. This isn’t a joke. Don’t tell him.

Regardless, this video is a great tribute to the Fighting Fantasy series and even got some pretty sweet re-tweets from both Tinmen (makers of the apps/games) and also the official Fighting Fantasy account too! Huzzah! If you’re interested in the series at all, you should go follow the official account on Twitter.

What do you think of the Fighting Fantasy series? Do you have any fond memories of it from its original release? Which gamebook is your favorite? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
