The Last of Us 2 will continue development once Uncharted 4 DLC has been finished

The Last of Us 2 hasn’t officially been announced by Naughty Dog, but that’s mainly because the game is still in the prototype stage rather than a case of whether or not it will actually happen.

Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann has all but confirmed that The Last of Us 2 will happen and according to Druckmann development of The Last of Us 2 will continue once DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has been wrapped up.

Speaking with Gamesradar, Druckmann discussed what plans the studio had moving forward after Uncharted 4 had been released.

“Before my partner, Bruce [Straley] and I, my directing partner, came on to Uncharted 4 we were working on prototypes for different ideas within The Last Of Us universe,” he said. Druckmann also hints that the team were considering working on something completely separate from both Uncharted and TLOU, “without going into specific genres [there were] ideas outside the The Last Of Us.”

Druckmann added that any plans they did have for The Last of Us 2 and any prototypes he and Bruce were working on had to be put on hold so that they could work on Uncharted 4 which releases next month on PlayStation 4.”

“All those things were left on hold when we had to come onto Uncharted 4 to direct the project,” he added. “Our next focus is the single player [Uncharted 4] DLC and then, once we have enough resources, resurrect all those prototypes; see where we’re at, see where the teams at, what they’re excited for and go from there.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End releases on the PlayStation 4 on May 10.
