Gaming Respawn Plays (September 2024)

Welcome back to another Gaming Respawn Plays. We’re still playing games, but a lot of us are apparently still finishing up the titles we were playing last month and haven’t moved on yet (I’m STILL finishing up Rise of the Ronin, but I’m almost done…finally). But a couple of us Gaming Respawners have been living it up in the video gaming world and are having a blast playing old and new titles. Well, at least one off us has, the other guy is having a real frustrating time with his gaming lately, which is a shame because he needs his play time, and no one wants to find out what happens when this particular guy doesn’t get his daily fix of gaming (terrible things happen…unspeakable things). Join us to see how these two Gaming Respawners are faring with their gaming.

Astro Bot, Steins; Gate: My Darling’s Embrace, and Battlefield 2042

This month I’ve been playing a combination of Astro Bot, visual novels and Battlefield 2042 again!
I was very close to buying Black Myth: Wukong as it’s right in the wheelhouse of my favorite genre of game. However, the niggle of the game not having difficulty options and friends saying the game is actually quite hard in places has put me off buying it until such time there is the option to make the game easier. The same happened with Sifu. I got the game only when the patch came out.

So, instead of buying that, I saw that Astro Bot was getting rave reviews, so I spent the money on that instead. I surprised myself that I did as Astro Bot is not necessarily something I’d go for, but I’m so pleased I did as it’s absolutely fantastic. It doesn’t look that great from trailers, but the silky smooth gameplay mixed with superb and innovative level designs in a much larger game than Astro’s Playroom has me gagging for more!

I’m completing every collectible per level before moving on, but so far, about halfway through, my favourite level I started going “wow” with was the complete God of War level in the game. This level is like a tiny vignette of the whole God of War experience but in LEGO form (now THERE is a game I’d play, LEGO God of War!!).

After that, I am still enjoying blowing people up in Battlefield 2042 and have discovered a new favourite thing to do. Snipers using sniper rifles? Pah…never bring a sniper rifle to a sniping point when you have shoulder-launched missiles that can do the job even better.

Finally, I’ve managed two playthroughs of the visual novel game Steins; Gate: My Darling’s Embrace. I’ve not got to the true ending yet, but the two I have gotten to made me laugh out loud. Such a great game.

Upcoming for next month, it’s my birthday in a couple of days’ time, and Space Marine II was the only thing I was after, so hopefully next month, I will be discussing that game.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

September has been a bit of a cursed month for me, gaming-wise. With October just around the corner, my gaming tends towards being a bit spookier, but it’s actually various fatal crashes and loading errors that plagued me rather than jump-scares. My Vita kept crashing during Zero Escape, SAW wouldn’t load on my PS3, and I got stuck in a bug loop on my playthrough of Prey (2017.)

In the end, I finally managed to invest some decent time into another classic gothic horror tale with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. I’ve been a fan of the series for a long time but only got around to fully completing the first title this past month. It’s been a great time, although my partner is not the happiest with the repeated cries of “Vae Victis!” or the comically evil cackling.

The grim setting and being introduced to characters that I’ve already come to know and love from my time with the rest of the series makes it great fun, even if some of the dungeons outstay their welcome pretty quickly. I’m tempted to turn this into a straight run-through of the entire series on PC, though I’m not holding my breath. With my luck lately, it’s likely to make my CPU meltdown or something.
