With the launch of Destiny 2 just around the corner, now might be a good time to begin clearing space on your Xbox One to make room for Bungie’s latest title.
According to the game’s listing on the Xbox One Marketplace, Destiny 2 will require a rather modest 29.15 GB of hard drive space to install the game when it launches next month. That may come as a surprise to some players though given that the Destiny 2 website had previously stated that a minimum of 68 GB would be needed, so it remains to be seen if Bungie have actually managed to reduce the file size of Destiny 2 by that much, or if it is indeed a mistake.
The 29.15 GB figure can only be seen on the Xbox One Store in the US though, with the UK store only mentioning that “68 GB hard drive storage space required as of 09.17”, although it’s subject to change.
The minimum 68 GB file size provided by Bungie earlier in the year was actually welcomed by many fans who believed that the bigger file size was as a result of there being more content in Destiny 2 than the original game.
Destiny: The Collection, which included DLC and the two major expansions for the game, took up 60 GB of hard drive space, so a file size for Destiny 2 that comes in at under 30 GB at launch would definitely come as a surprise but would certainly be welcome.
The file size for Destiny 2 on PS4 and PC have yet to be revealed, so we will have to wait and see whether or not they will be at a similar size to the Xbox One version.
Destiny 2 launches on PS4 and Xbox One on September 6th with a PC launch slated for October 24th.
