ARK: Survival Evolved has sold 5 million copies on Steam Early Access, but launch pushed back

ARK: Survival Evolved has consistently been one of Steam’s top sellers since releasing in Early Access last year and has been going from strength to strength. However the game’s success hasn’t prevented its full release from being delayed as the game will now miss its June release date and will instead release in holiday 2016, Studio Wildcard has announced.

The dinosaur survival game was due for a full release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in June and is currently only available to play in early access on PC and Xbox One via Microsoft’s Game Preview platform. ARK: Survival Evolved won’t be available in early access for PS4 players though who will need to wait until later this year to play the game.

Despite remaining in Early Access a little longer than anticipated, Studio Wildcard did reveal that sales of ARK: Survival Evolved have surpassed 5 million, with 1 million of those being from the Xbox One version of the game and the other 4 million units being sold on PC.

Not only that though, but the extra time the studio now has before launch will enable them to add more features than they had originally planned for the game’s release. As a result, ARK: Survival Evolve will now launch with over 100 dinosaurs, 30 more than originally planned, as well as modding, local multiplayer and split screen to name a few.

“ARK’s success has increased our content goals and Early Access players have helped us raise our ambitions with their invaluable feedback,” said Studio Wildcard co-founder Jesse Rapczak.

“When we first announced, we said 70 dinos, now we’ll have over 100. We never anticipated adding modding, local multiplayer, split screen, or numerous other upcoming features. The game at launch will be far more robust than originally conceived, but it takes a little extra time to wrap it all up.”
