Have You Played…God of War?

God of War on the Playstation 2 was a highlight of the system’s lifetime. The success of the game brought about the creation of various other titles in the series. This success continues to this day. Even now rumors indicate that the new God of War game will center around Norse mythology rather than the Greek mythology the franchise is known for. If you have not played any of the games in the series, then you should do yourself the favor of doing so.

As aforementioned, God of War is set in the world of Greek mythology in ancient Greece. An enraged Kratos searches for revenge as he is tricked by the God of War Ares into killing two people very close to him. He has long grown tired of playing the puppet of the Gods and sets out on a path of vengeance. The game introduces various mythological characters causing this ancient Greece to really feel alive.

God of War‘s gameplay is primarily combo-based. As Kratos you will need to hack-and-slash through waves of enemies utilizing various combos. The game also offers quick time events where you will need precision to defeat particular bosses. The gameplay is heavily varied, so defeating different enemies in a plethora of ways just adds to the fun.

Being that this is the first game in the series we are talking about, there might be some confusion about the story. Although God of War is the first game in the series, it is actually the third game chronologically. It might be tempting to play the games in chronological order, but I suggest that you start with this title first. The game easily introduces you to the world and gameplay of God of War and makes it easy for you to become accustomed to the controls.

If you have not yet played any game in this great series, then definitely start with this one and work your way up. That way you can start preparing for the upcoming God of War IV.
