What Summer Announcements Get Me Excited for Winter

Summer of Gaming Event

So as the summer really starts to heat up (literally sat in my shorts cooking), I thought I would take a quick look back at what I’ve seen so far and what I CAN’T WAIT FOR!!! I can honestly say that at the beginning of the year I was, like, ‘Well, looks like another boring year for games’. But as the lockdown continued, the more exciting it became.

Cast your mind waaaaay back to March 2020. Not much word from EA, Bethesda were still trying to sell us Fallout 76, Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed (again), Valhalla was still a rumour, and we all got locked in with not a pub in sight. All in all, it looked pretty bleak until all of a sudden e3.com added a list of incoming live streams to compensate for the cancelled E3 event. I have watched as many as I can, and as of last night, I am now officially STOKED!

Assassin’s Creed but with Vikings!

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

The first exciting announcement was, of course, Assassins Creed: Valhalla. For anyone that is in the know, living in York means that being a Viking is a way of life, and now (for a few days at least) it really will be! The initial trailer looks promising, and there is talk of a couple of fan favourites returning.

Next up for me was the Iron Man PSVR demo. Stepping into the suit of Tony Stark and battling evildoers definitely has its excitement level set to TEN, and there’s not long to wait either as it’s out next week. (Can be ordered with Move controllers, which seem to be rarer than Vibranium).

Next on my list has to be Deathloop from Bethesda. The idea of ‘kill, rinse, repeat’ seems like a whole lot of fun, not to mention that the trailer had an awesome soundtrack and some cool voice talent. This was a surprise for me as I had no idea what this was until the trailer. Add one to the list!

Star Wars in VR? Summer Fun for Everyone

Star Wars: Squadrons

This leads me onto EA’s announcement of Star Wars: Squadrons. I had seen a trailer for this about two weeks previously, and I was, like, ‘Meh, maybe’. I mean, it was going to be a flight sim that looked like what we already have in Star Wars: Battlefront II. Then they said the magic letter: V.R. That changes it all completely. For those of you who are reading this and who happen to be Star Wars fans, I have just one thing to say: ‘Go and get a VR kit right now’! The idea of sitting in my armchair pretending to be in an X-Wing will never get old (if I might be).

Next on my exciting list (and after last night’s preview) is Marvel’s Avengers. Again, when I first saw this, I was not too fussed. I would now like to change my tune totally. It looks amazing. The skill tree, the customization, multiplayer, campaign, graphics…it all looks so much better!!!!!!! It’s fair to say that the end of this year is going to be a busy one. With Cyberpunk 2077 still to come (new announcement tonight), the Ubisoft stream and the end of IGN Summer of Gaming, we as gamers should not be left wanting!
