American Truck Simulator – Utah DLC Review

Long haul trucking is probably not much fun in real life. You have to spend days and days away from your family, you have no company on the road and tight deadlines can force you into some dangerous situations. On the other hand, trucking in American Truck Simulator is a lot of fun. You get to slowly build your own company from the ground up, you can do it from your own home, and you can shove the in-game radio full to bursting with podcasts. Plus, there’s all that beautiful scenery to look at. Now, you get to look at the sites and sounds of the state of Utah, thanks to American Truck Simulator – Utah.

American Truck Simulator - Utah

A Beautiful Landscape

SCS Software has really turned the truck simulation genre into an art form. Euro Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 were two amazing titles. Now American Truck Simulator has done the same thing but for America truckers. American Truck Simulator – Utah expands the map to include the massive space of the western state to the game, and you can visit and set up garages in locations such as Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Moab.

The main draw of the DLC, as well as adding 3,500 miles of new roads to drive on, is the addition of important landmarks and industries. Getting to see places like Salt Lake City is pretty spectacular, but for my money, the real beauty lies in Monument Valley. The barren landscape characterized by huge, monolithic plateaus dotting the horizon is a joy to drive through. Just don’t do what I did and get distracted by the views. The amount of cash I had to pay out on crashing fines was insanely high.

So Industrious

The industrial improvements are also nice, if a little redundant for casual players. In much the same way the rest of the game works, there are a lot of hidden details. Specific quarries, truck stops, and agricultural businesses are dotted across the landscape. If you’re really into the industries, trucking or Utah in general, then they’ll probably scratch a very specific itch for you. If you’re just trying to turn your trucking firm into the biggest one in the world, then it’ll probably all be so much background noise while you accept the highest paying job going.

In general, American Truck Simulator – Utah is a great DLC for anyone who wants an expanded landscape for American Truck Simulator. If you’ve already covered most of your map and just want some new places in which to drive around, then you’re going to get what you want out of it. If you’re looking for some awesome new scenery to drive through, then you’re also going to get what you want. Let’s face it, if you’re into American Truck Simulator, you’re going to love the Utah DLC. It adds so much and all for a pretty decent price as well, considering the work that presumably went into it.
