Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Multiplayer Looks Like It Will Support 20 Players

It looks like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode may support up to 20 players in one game, more than any other Call of Duty game in the past.

According to listings for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, the game will support between 2-20 players in online multiplayer. All previous Call of Duty games on both stores state that they support between 2-18 players, with the exception of Black Ops 4, which supported up to 100 players thanks to its Blackout battle royale mode.

Most multiplayer matches in Call of Duty involve six players on each time, bringing the total player count to 12, although there are some game modes, such as Ground War, that support up to 18 players. If Modern Warfare does support up to 20 players. and there’s no reason to suspect this isn’t the case given that it’s listed as so on the PlayStation and Xbox Stores, it’s unclear whether or not Infinity Ward is increasing the player count of the average match, or if there will only be certain game modes that support the extra players.

Given the history of Call of Duty, it looks more likely that the typical match will still remain as 6 vs 6, with other modes potentially supporting 10 players on each team. It will be interesting to see if some modes are being reworked to support more players or if a brand new mode will be added to make use of the increased player count.

We still don’t know much at all about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode just yet, with most of the attention so far focusing on the game’s single-player campaign. We’re likely to see more from Activision at E3 later this month when we’ll hopefully find out more about what they have planned for Modern Warfare’s multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases worldwide on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 25th.
