Paradox Interactive Opens New Development Studio in California

Swedish Publisher Paradox Interactive has announced that they have opened a new development studio in Berkeley, California.

The new studio, named Paradox Tectonic, is tasked with working on a brand new IP and will be led by Rob Humble, former executive vice president at EA. Humble was also the former CEO of Linden Labs, the developers behind Second Life.

We have no idea yet what this brand new IP will be, although we suspect there’s a good chance it may be some kind of strategy game given that the genre is what Paradox Interactive is best known for.

Paradox Interactive currently has five other development studios under their control, including their flagship developer Paradox Development Studio who are most famous for their strategy games, including Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron and Crusader Kings.

The company is also well known for publishing a number of other popular games from less known developers, including Cities: Skylines, Pillars of Eternity, Steel Division and Tyranny.

Earlier this year, Paradox also purchased the rights to Prison Architect from Introversion Software who felt that they had taken the series as far as they could. Following the purchase, Paradox Interactive added that they are keen on creating more games within the Architect theme.

The company’s next release is Imperator: Rome, which is currently scheduled to come out on PC on April 25th.
