So, the Call of Duty rumor mill is spinning wildly as Activision’s most recent announcement that the series was “going back to its roots” has been spoiled by a recent leak.
YouTuber TheFamilyVideoGamers posted a video where he talked about a handful of images he received from an anonymous source. These images point to this year’s Call of Duty game being set in World War II, and they even suggest the game will be called Call of Duty: WWII.
Here are the images featured in the video:
Whilst these images do seem like the real deal, I have to stress that this is indeed just a rumor at this point and that Activision’s previous comment could mean something different entirely. Maybe the series will go back to World War I to take on the mighty Battlefield 1. Nobody could possibly know until we hear from Activision themselves, although they have suspiciously kept quiet. Call of Duty games do get announced around April-time, so we expect a full announcement soon.
World War II has since been pushed aside with very little amount of games taking on the subject recently except for the fantastic Sniper Elite series, but a return to this period in history would be a great move for the Call of Duty franchise. Remember the Omaha beach landing opening mission of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault? Imagine that but with today’s graphics and superior processing power, we could have a full fledged recreation that would be stunning on the eyes and immersive to boot. However…..bye bye jet-packs and exo-suits!
