BBC Three to broadcast live coverage of League of Legends World Championships

The BBC Three will be broadcasting live coverage of the League of Legends World Championships for the first time.

In recent years, eSports has grown rapidly in popularity and can attract hundreds of thousands, if not millions of viewers and the BBC’s decision to show the World Championships marks an important landmark for eSports as it looks to break into the mainstream media.

The League of Legends World Championships which are being held at Wembley Area this year, will be streamed online via the BBC Website and will use the BBC Three and BBC Sport technology which has been used to broadcast live sporting events as well as Glastonbury.

Coverage of the World Championships will be hosted by Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin who be presenting alongside Julia Hardy and will begin on Thursday October 15th.

“We jumped at the chance to collaborate with BBC Sport and bring this massive UK event to a wider audience, BBC Three will always experiment with new ways to deliver content that young people want, in ways they want”, said BBC Three Controler Damian Kavanagh.
“I think this is an exciting way to cover something millions of young Brits love, in a BBC Three way.”
