Free Bulletstorm Remaster Upgrade “Not Possible” for Current Owners Says Pitchford

Anyone who currently owns a copy of Bulletstorm on PC will not be receiving a free upgrade to the remaster version, Gearbox Software’s CEO Randy Pitchford has stated on Twitter. Not only will there will be no free upgrade, but the remastered version will not be discounted at all for current owners.

When asked on Twitter if Steam owners of Bulletstorm would have the remastered version added to their Steam library for free, Pitchford said that it was “not possible” for Gearbox to do so, adding that it was because the two versions of the game will have different publishers and were from a different era.

In a follow up tweet, Pitchford was then asked if there would at least be a discount offered to those who already own the game. Unfortunately, there won’t be any discounts offered with Pitchford suggesting that if that’s a deal breaker for anyone, they should “skip it.”

@SteamFrom If that is a deal breaker for you, you should skip it.

Fans of Bulletstorm did not take well to the news though and used the recent release of Darksiders: Warmastered Edition to show that it is possible to offer remasters for free or at a discounted price, even when they are published by a different company.

However, it looks like the reason why Gearbox are unable to offer a free version or any discounts is because they don’t hold the necessary licenses to make such a decision. As Pitchford said, Gearbox Software are just the publishers.

The Bulletstorm Remaster will be heading to PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.
